Going Bush | Vlog 4 | Ethan: Week 3

VLOG#4:Things are kicked into high gear for the second bush/hiking module, as we head into Mount Aspiring National Park for a 3 day adventure.

The week started off with some in-the-field learning, building on our navigational and interpretation skills in the beech forests past Glenorchy, with a day hike to Lake Rere and down the Greenstone River. The weather closed in earlier in the week, but cleared by Thursday, leaving behind a fresh covering of snow on the hilltops.

We started our hike at Raspberry Flat in the Matukituki Valley, and followed the river up to Cascade Hut - our home for the rest of the week. The following day was a stunner. We were on the trail early, headed for Cascade Saddle. The sun rose, the clouds parted and we were greeted by spectacular view of Mt. Aspiring and the jagged glacier covered mountain tops that line the Matukituki Valley. We broke through the undergrowth before noon, and had lunch literally sitting on top of the world.

What a trip!!
