A diverse and geographical program designed to keep everyone interested and busy throughout their stay. Balancing plenty of action, learning, social and free time.
MODULE 1 - QUEENSTOWN - ORIENTATION
Get to know the local area, learn local customs and culture, know 'how things are done' in NZ, get to know your program mates, and really absorb the plan for your program.
MODULE 2 - Introduction to Adventure Skills & Leadership
Time for an introduction to the disciplines that will become your bread and butter for the next eight weeks. You'll get an in-depth briefing and training on climbing, hiking and guiding, giving you the core skills needed for the training ahead. Not to mention exploring some stunning local sights along the way!
MODULE 3 - Development of Guiding Attitudes, Knowledge & Skills
Now it's time for Intermediate training for climbing and trekking. We go to the next level! The focus on continued improvement of your personal climbing skills, but we start to introduce more advanced elements to your climbing, in a really special location.
This means…Road Trip! Head north to the endless summer of the Golden Bay, Nelson and Queen Charlotte Sound. Golden sand beaches, rainforest and warm weather. Not a bad place to train!
MODULE 4 - Critical Incident Management
Emergency medical care, rescue, and managing critical incidents are fundamental to guiding. This practical and experiential week is focused on helping you gain the skills needed to deal with any scenario.
MODULE 5 - Technical Knowledge + core skills
Core skill study on the Adventure Tourism industry, helping you prepare for those awesome job placements ahead! In this module you'll also work on advanced climbing and trekking skills to help you reach Jedi level... if you aren't there already! You'll love this time in the awe-inspiring Mt Aspiring National Park.
MODULE 6 - EXPEDITIONs & WORK EXPERIENCE
This block is the capstone to your internship. We first provide a pre-planned expedition for you to manage & lead; then we let you choose a journey or expedition to any destination. You will plan, organise and lead your own real deal expedition anywhere in New Zealand. It's time to put all that training into action!
You'll also have the chance to work as part of two real adventure tourism organisations. Be front-line in a Queenstown or Wanaka business helping people have the time of their lives hiking/climbing/jet-boating/bungy jumping/canyon-swinging their way around the country!
MODULE 7 - Crunch time! Qualification testing and Graduation
It's time for you to prepare for, and sit your assessments to become qualified rock climbing, abseiling and trekking leaders!
If you pass your assessments, and have demonstrated a great attitude and potential for guiding, this is when we support your preparation and assist you in being placed into your paid work!
