WEEKS 1 - 4: CORE SKILLS

Queenstown Orientation

Get to know your program mates and your base camp – the stunning adventure capital of the world, Queenstown! Spend a few days getting familiar with the local area, learn local customs and culture, do a bit of administration, and fully absorb exactly what you’ll get up to over the next 12 weeks.

Introduction to Adventure Skills & Leadership

Time for an introduction to the disciplines that will become your bread and butter for the next eight weeks. You'll get an in-depth briefing and training on hiking, guiding and climbing/biking/canyoning, giving you the core skills needed for the training ahead. Not to mention exploring some stunning local sights along the way!

You’ll begin developing technical skills in rope systems, rock climbing, and bush walking. We’ll build on your existing knowledge of equipment, weather, and nutrition, then introduce you to essential training in group management, risk analysis, and leadership.

Cultural Immersion

What is Kiwi Culture? A mix of old and new, a sport and outdoors-obsessed multi-cultural nation with a cheeky sense of humour and a laid back way of life. You'll visit a geothermal wonderland, explore volcanic plateaus, get an inside look at Maori culture, get your gumboots on at a farmstay, and explore the best of the capital city's cafe and bar scene!

Adventure Travel - West Coast Wandering

Renowned for its rugged wild beauty, you'll delve deep into deep rain forest, remote beaches, lakes and mountains. Caving will be the highlight as well as camping, hiking, sightseeing end exploration.

Leadership Development (Self & Others)

Leadership comes in many forms.  Allowing yourself to be the best person you can, allowing a team to function optimally and finally, leading a team to encourage others to best they can too.

This module is all about helping you become a high performing individual and the ultimate team member.

Into the Wild - A True Wilderness Journey

Journey to the deep south, New Zealand’s untouched, uninhabited, rarely visited Stewart Island wilderness. We get delivered by boat onto the white beaches of Stewart Islands South Coast. This is far away from any tracks, people, or civilisation and home to penguins, sea lions, kiwi and deer in the wild. We spend a few days camping on the beaches and in the forest playing games, hanging out with the animals, and gazing a the stars!

Adventure Travel - The Naughty North

It's time to let your hair down, and cut loose with your new mates. You'll explore the top of the South Island....White Beaches, clear and warm coastal water, scenic sounds, BBQs and beers. There will be plenty of laughs and loads of fun. Outside of general sightseeing, exploration, sun and fun, the highlight of this module is a 3-day hike and kayak on the famous Queen Charlotte Sound Track.

Leadership Development (Teams)

Having a framework for being leading others is a great skill in many aspects of life. In this module you will learn about the nature of groups and teams and strategies to lead others to achieve a desired outcome. You'll complete a number of teamwork activities that will require immediate thinking, open communication and natural problem solving.

Climbing Camp

Live by the lake in legendary Wanaka as you hang out climbing, rappelling, swimming and camping! Think camp fires, camp cooking, and starry nights. But just minutes from civilization and with amazing facilities, so actually... 'glamping'!

Environmental Service

When you're among some of the worlds best natural environments, it's pretty cool to know you're giving something back. Our there doing your bit with a group of friends, and more importantly in nature herself, working with her.

Our environmental service component will either be one exciting block project, or a few days spread over your time in Queenstown. It can include working to support the alpine ecosystem, cleaning up rivers and lakes, or helping support native bird trusts with habitat restoration and bird care.

We aim for unique locations, unique service work, and interaction with wildlife or the environment in a meaningful way.

Farewell - Ka Kite Ano!

Say goodbye to Queenstown and toast to new friendships. Wherever your life leads you next, you’ll be able to look back on this chapter of your life as an epic, challenging, empowering experience.  We'll help by ensuring we celebrate our successes and apply learning from our adventures. Develop your style of transferring all your experiences back into your life and future as you head home!
