A diverse and exciting program designed to keep everyone interested and busy throughout their stay, balancing plenty of action, learning, social and free time.
WEEK 1: Orientation & Introduction to climbing
Orientation is a bit like your first week at college. You will get to know the local area, learn local customs and culture, get to know your program mates, and really absorb the plan for your program. Your Pure Exploration program leader will lead you on tours, challenges, games and practical tasks to help turn you into a team, immerse you in Thai culture and help you find your way around town!
Sawasdee and welcome to Thailand! You’ll land in the north of Thailand at Chiang Mai, an ancient city founded in 1296, surrounded by misty jungle-covered mountains and beautiful valleys. Renowned for its stunning markets, this city feels like authentic Thailand, so is the perfect place to start our journey, meet the team and start to learn about what your life will be like for the next 6 weeks!
WEEK 2, 3 & 4: Climbing, Climbing and more Climbing
Start your journey into the vertical world with an introduction to rock climbing & abseiling equipment, techniques and get hooked! You’ll start off on a top rope and progress to lead climbing, allowing you to gain skills in this awesome sport. Not to mention exploring some stunning local sights along the way!
We’ll continue to build on your first two weeks of skills, through an introduction to risk management, instruction styles and total competency at climbing briefs. During week four we’ll cover lead climbing, top-roping systems, abseiling, transitions, clifftop safety. This will give you comprehensive and thorough training ahead of your peer assessments and final exams.
WEEK 5: Client days
At this point of the program, we take it up a notch. It’s time to test your limits and push those new skills. We take you to a few more challenging locations where you’ll have to pull together as a team to get through, and where you’ll really start to see the value in ensuring processes are followed and back-up plans are in place!
You will be exposed to leading actual clients on climbing adventures where you practice your instruction style, gear knowledge and climbing skills. This is a great trial run for those of you who may be considering getting into the adventure tourism industry as a climbing guide. You’ll get real life experience of what it feels like to assess weather, assess client abilities and make their day as fun and informative as possible.
WEEK 6: ASSESSMENTS & PROGRAM WRAP!
The final piece in the program puzzle - your assessments with a certified assessor. If successful, you will pass your Rock Climbing Supervisor certification. We have found with most of our previous Adventure Guide Programs that students have found they are MORE than prepared for these assessments, as long as they did the work required throughout the program.
On completion of your assessments there will be some super fun wrap up sessions with the team, a suitably celebratory farewell for all your new best mates as you head back to different corners of the globe.
If you enjoy your time on program and would like to extend to the 12 week, you can always reach out to your Program Advisor to explore this option further.
