Thailand & India, what a combination! From world class rock climbing in Railay to trekking off the beaten track in the incredible Indian Himalaya, you will experience two of the world’s most instagram-worthy locations.

From technical skills to emergency safety and group dynamics, this comprehensive course will give you 100% confidence to navigate, hike, climb and guide in the outdoors. And you get to explore the beaches of Thailand and the mountains of India for 3 months. Rad.

This 3 month program is broken down into different key areas that focus on building your repertoire of skills and experience. Your time in Thailand and India will be split between intensive practical and theoretical training, gaining world-recognised guiding qualifications.

Module 1: THAILAND - Focusing on your Rock Leader qualification
Module 2: INDIA - Focusing on your Bush Leader qualification
Peer leadership days, advanced climbing & hiking sessions and assessments occur at the end of each module

While this is an Adventure Guide Program, it’s not all about the outdoors. There will be community and social events; personal development; free time and plenty of opportunity for exploration. The landscapes of these beautiful countries will be your classroom, with lessons on leadership, technical skills, group dynamics /psychology and strategies to help in every area of life.

While this is an Adventure Guide Program, it's not all about the outdoors and outdoor pursuits. There will be cultural activities and exchange; sightseeing and touring; personal development; community and social events; free time and plenty of opportunity for exploration.  

 

Whether you are looking for a stepping stone into the adventure tourism career pathway as a guide, or just an awesome educational opportunity to live in the most amazing places on earth, the Pure Exploration Adventure Guide Program is an epic, constructive, and rewarding way to spend 3 months abroad! 

 

If you love tropical beaches and epic mountainscapes this program is for you. From world class rock climbing in Thailand and untouched Himalayan trekking in India, there's something for everyone.

Prerequisites

  • English Language Fluency
  • Be 18-35 years old at time of commencement
  • Moderate fitness is recommended. All professional development and training is provided
  • Have a passion for travel, adventure, & tourism
  • A desire to accept challenges, a thirst for knowledge, a love of outdoor activities or for our natural environment
  • Be a social team player that enjoys helping others discover adventure!
  • Canyoning option - swimming ability

Note spaces on this program are extremely limited! Most of our candidates apply 8-12 months in advance of start date. 

STRUCTURE

A diverse and exciting program designed to keep everyone interested and busy throughout their stay, balancing plenty of action, learning, social and free time.

WEEKS 1 - 3: Orientation and Rock Climbing

INTRODUCTION TO ADVENTURE SKILLS & LEADERSHIP + ROCK CLIMBING MODULE ONE

Welcome to Thailand! We spend a few days having a group orientation where the group will get to know each other, settle into accommodation and indulge in tasty Thai cuisine. Over the next few days you'll all discuss the learning outcomes for the program, spend time participating in team bonding exercises, play various games and have time to explore your new back yard.

You’ll get an in-depth briefing providing you the core skills needed for the training ahead. Not to mention exploring some stunning local sights along the way! Including a home-stay at an expansive permaculture farm nearby to the crag. At this stay, you will also have the opportunity to learn more about permaculture, sustainable farming techniques and local food products. Explore the nearby village, swim in the nearby river, visit the ancient wall paintings and spend some time immersed in the jungle and mountains. 

Rock Module One will introduce you to rock climbing, equipment, top rope and lead climbing will allow you to start gaining skills in this awesome sport. During this time there will be further teachings of risk management, client instruction and environmental awareness.

Rock Module Two covers: Lead climbing, top-roping systems, abseiling, transitions and clifftop safety 

WEEKS 4 - 6: Rock Client Days and Assessments

Rock Modules Three and Four: you will start leading your group, route planning, safety assessments and risk management. 

Then CRUNCH TIME

Time to complete logbook requirements to enable you to sit your upcoming NZOIA Rock Leader assessments

We will set you up with leadership days to run climbing excursions, equipment, working with clients, and leading groups! 

Get some real experience with what it takes to plan, risk assess and successfully lead a day expedition

Assessments take place in the final week in Thailand, a 2 day Rock Assessment. We have an amazing 98% pass rate, so if you have put in the time and energy - by the end of the program you will 

be a certified NZOIA Rock Leader

WEEKS 7 - 10: Hiking Introduction and Leadership

Welcome to India! A land filled with beautiful mountains, rich and vibrant culture, as well as some of the friendliest locals in the world, India has long held its place as a favourite for people of all ages to visit.

So time to switch gears, lace up those hiking boots and jump into the world of hiking! 

 

Hike Module One: will introduce you to day-hikes, overnight hikes, navigation, weather and map reading then introduce you to essential training in group management, risk analysis, and leadership.

Hike Module Two covers: Multi-day hiking, camping, nutrition, leadership, navigation, flora and fauna and natural interpretation skills

WEEKS 11 - 12: Bush Client Days and Assessments

Hike Modules Three and Four: are when you start practicing leading your group, trip planning and gaining some mileage for your logbook! A couple more multi-day adventures await 

 

Once again it's CRUNCH TIME where you'll complete logbook requirements to enable you to sit your upcoming NZOIA Bush Leader assessments

We will set you up with leadership days to run hiking excursions, from trip planning, safety, pickups, equipment, working with clients, and leading groups! 

Get some real experience with what it takes to plan, risk assess and successfully lead a day expedition

Assessments take place in the final week of the program, a 2 day Bush Assessment. We have an amazing 98% pass rate, so if you have put in the time and energy - by the end of the program you will 

be a certified NZOIA Bush Leader

To top off your 12 weeks with us we host an epic graduation dinner.
